Case Study: Wall-Mounted Acoustic Panel Installation in a School Gymnasium

The Problem

School gymnasiums are notoriously difficult acoustic environments. Hard, parallel surfaces – painted concrete block walls, polished hardwood floors, and exposed open-web truss ceilings – create long reverberation times that make announcements, PE instruction, and assemblies hard to hear clearly. This school came to Evolve Acoustics looking to cut down on excessive echo and improve speech intelligibility in the gym without disrupting the space’s use as an active athletic facility.

The Solution

Evolve Acoustics designed and installed a wall-mounted acoustic panel system tailored to the gymnasium’s dimensions and use pattern. Panels were selected for durability and impact resistance appropriate to an active gym environment, and placed above and around the backboard and along the main wall to maximize sound absorption while preserving usable court space and existing equipment mounts.

The Result

The installation was completed on schedule with no disruption to the school’s gym schedule. The client reported a noticeable reduction in echo and improved clarity for announcements and instruction, and later brought Evolve Acoustics back for additional acoustic work at the same facility.
